Possible Common Ground?
Towards the middle of last month, an unusual meeting took place. After an online discussion (arguments, disagreement, or civil point-counterpoint, not certain) members of the Occupy Memphis movement and members of the Mid-South Tea Party met for open discussion. The meeting was unusual because of rare face-to-face meetings between two of the more active social/political protest groups in the nation.
Public Radio International (PRI) and CBS News have reported on the meeting. According to PRI…
“….. the purpose of the meeting was to better understand each other and find common ground.”
Jim Tomasik is one of the organizers of the Mid-South Tea Party and his group invited members of Occupy Memphis to meet with his group after an online discussion started. Malloy Pope and Tristan Tran took up the invitation and met with the Tea Party folks.
“I think there were reservations on both side. We hadn’t heard any problems out of Occupy Memphis people, but it’s all over the news — stuff going on in other places,” Tomasik said.
