Did you know Earth’s Himalayan region is not suffering the same ice melting as other ice covered regions? Example Greenland is shedding its millenniums ice formations. The melting is contributing to rises in Earth’s sea levels. A recent extensive research project and subsequent study have yielded data that Earth’s land ice has shrunk drastically over the past few years.
MediaMatters reported yesterday on the findings of a major University of Colorado climate study. The Madiematters article relates to, yes, Fox News’ continued misrepresentation of scientifcc data. One can only hope Fox News staffers simply do not understand scientific data and related reports. The opposite scenario, however is more typical. Fox News is reporting on global warming as it reports on other issues the network feels supports progressive thought. The network seems to take empircal data and turns the data over to ‘behind-the-scenes’ spin doctors for creative and “obtuse” reporting from a conservaite angle. In other words they approach certain news coverage like, “….this cannot be, our managers and producers have a differing slant.” I offer one case-in-point recent reports from Gretchen Carlson and, of all people, Dick Morris, about Fox New’s reports of ‘doctored’ jobs numbers for January 2012. Yes, we know, plug me in, pay me, and give me a camera with a microphone, and watch me work.
Shauna Teel of MediaMatters wrote a compelling article titled: Polar Opposites: Fox News and Science. Teel begans her article as follows:
Once again, a scientist has had to correct a Fox News distortion after the network’s flagship nightly news program misrepresented a study to claim ”the Earth’s polar ice is melting less than previously thought.” Dr. John Wahr, who helped lead the research, said via email that Fox’s coverage is “misleading” and “inaccurate.”
The research from the University of Colorado Boulder — the “first comprehensive satellite study of the contribution of the world’s melting glaciers and ice caps to global sea level rise” — found that the land ice shrunk by nearly 150 billion tons every year between 2003-2010 (mostly from Greenland and Antarctica), adding 12 millimeters to sea level rise.
Mind you the broadcast was not some Hannity or O’Reilly biased propaganda reporting; the broadcast was the Fox News evening ‘flagship’ telecast. If you want to watch, here it is….. (I spared my brain the insult and respected for my time. I did not watch the video)

Basically, the University fo Colorado study revealed data indicating rapid ice melting in Earth’s Polar regions. The study also included comparison data of another glaciered region of Earth: the Himalayas.
Teel continued…..
While the study found that glaciers in the Himalayan region were melting less than ground-based estimates had indicated, Professor Wahr said “our estimate of polar ice loss is roughly the same as previous estimates,” contrary to Fox News’ report. Wahr observed that Fox seemed to believe that the Himalayas are located at the Earth’s poles. They are not.
Speaking to The Guardian last week, Wahr said: “Our results and those of everyone else show we are losing a huge amount of water into the oceans every year … People should be just as worried about the melting of the world’s ice as they were before.”
The creative ‘hooks-people’ over at fox news used that very moment for Baier to use that all familiar ‘Come back after the break teaser’.
A recent university studied published poll data which indicates Fox News viewers are generally less informed on issues than most television news network viewers.

Is there any doubt as to why Fox New viewers may suffer from ‘information starvation’? NASA has a good reputation for getting it right!
