On Ted Cruz’s announcement day, he doesn’t fail to live up to his “carnival barker” showmanship and his commonly accepted phoniness.

From his choice of venue through an opening regarding his immigrant father past a strategic list of anti-Obama dog whistles with an announcement speech end in his world of “imagine.” Imagine a candidate for the US Presidency from a politician who literally lead a $24 billion dollar hit to US GDP via the GOP government shutdown and a politician who is not a natural born US citizen.

Question: What are the Requirements to Become President?

Answer: The US Constitution lists three requirements for any individual wishing to become president of the United States.

 A president must:
  • be a natural born U.S. citizen. Someone may be born abroad, but only if both parents were citizens of the United States. The only exception to this was for those around at the time the Constitution was adopted. Their requirement was that they had to be a citizen when the Constitution was adopted.
  • be at least 35 years of age. The youngest president elected was 43 years old. However, there was one president who was even younger. Do you know who he was?
  • have lived in the United States for at least 14 years to be president. This does not have to be consecutive or even the 14 years leading up to becoming president.
Of course, we realize time has evolved and delivered an expedient interpretation of the requirements: one parent must be a citizen of the US.  Yet, Cruz and most in his party are about strict interpretation of the US Constitution thus the requirements posted above should stand. His questionable candidate status hasn’t escaped the ever-present eye of the nation’s top birther.

Donald Trump “Top Level ‘Birther”, on Cruz as a viable candidate.

“It’s a hurdle; somebody could certainly look at it very seriously. He was born in Canada. If you know and when we all studied our history lessons, you are supposed to be born in this country, so I just don’t know how the courts will rule on this.”

Most constitutional scholars have adopted, or acquiesced to, the more common interpretation of one parent as a US citizen. We are certain Trump and others will acclimate to the convenient interpretation for one of their own. No matter years of disgusting birtherism against President Obama, the nation will embrace the birthright of one Ted Cruz. I will not speculate on why. Well, actually you know why, don’t you.

Huffington Post Ted “Shutdown the US Government” Cruz reported on the size of the audience for Cruz’s announcement day.

“The room was packed

Some have reported it seems as if the announcement took place in a mega church.
The room was packed for Cruz’s speech, but the crowd wasn’t all there just to applaud the senator’s big announcement, which was first shared on Twitter. Some of the students who witnessed the launch of Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign were, in the words of Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch, only in attendance so they wouldn’t get fined.

We will continue to report on Cruz’s big day. Let’s close with a set of worthy reactions.

Suffice it to say, Cruz will add flavor to the GOP run-up to the 2016 General Election.
