Missouri University President Resigns; A Victim Of His Own Lack of Leadership

In Football Team Protests, Missouri University President Resigns, MIZZOU student protests, Racism at MIZZOU, Tim wolfe on November 9, 2015 at 1:37 PM

The Missouri University President is reported to be a good guy, but he apparently mishandled reaction to years of overt campus racism that was starting to manifest all too regularly. When asked his perception of social oppression he turned the answer around to indicate “you feel….” Well, without actual cases of oppression there would be no “you feel…”

I often reach to lyrics from social geniuses for messages that sink deep. One of my favorites is posted below:

“That until there no longer
First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes –
Me say war.”

– Bob Marley (Borrowed from a speech delivered by Haile Selassie at the UN (many years ago).

Some students and faculty felt incidents on campus were not addressed properly
A friend of the TPI, Beautiful Songbird, is a former MIZZOU student. She offered this perspective on an experience at the university.

The current racial tensions at Mizzou have really stirred up old things that I thought I had tucked away. Like several of my fellow alumni, I too experienced racism on campus. My freshman year at Mizzou I was walking on campus when a car full of white men rolled down their windows and threw rocks at me yelling at me to “get out and go home”. Then I looked up to see a student waving his confederate flag at me!!! I thought I was dreaming and was too scared to report it. All I could think was that I will not be ran away. I worked too hard to get here and I will get my degree. That’s what kept me going. Although I appreciate the education that I received at the institution and the good times that I had there, situations like these can no longer be ignored.

But I am proud that these students have the courage to do what I did not. Tim Wolfe resigned but this is not the end!! I graduated over 14 years ago and it doesn’t seem any better!!
I fully support all these students! #‎concernedstudent1950‬#

War” (Youtube) partial lyrics

Until the philosophy which hold one race superior
And another
Is finally
And permanently
And abandoned –
Everywhere is war –
Me say war.

That until there no longer

First class and second class citizens of any nation
Until the colour of a man’s skin
Is of no more significance than the colour of his eyes –
Me say war.

That until the basic human rights

Are equally guaranteed to all,
Without regard to race –
Dis a war.

That until that day

The dream of lasting peace,
World citizenship
Rule of international morality
Will remain in but a fleeting illusion to be pursued,
But never attained –
Now everywhere is war – war.

Wolfe’s mishandling his leadership role constitutes an enticement for protesters to wage figurative “war.”
