Our traipse through the ridiculous world of GOP campaign ads starts with something created for Ted Cruz (with his voice over) that is too strange to serve as an attention garnering ad.

The ad ended and left co-hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough visibly stunned, before Scarborough deadpanned, “That’s just a weird ad.”



The rest of the Morning Joe panel agreed, as Scarborough added, “That’s not gonna connect with anybody.”

It isn’t surprising that Cruz’s campaign would hire an ad agency that developed such a zany exhibition.

Donald Trump’s first campaign ad is right along the same lines as his campaign oratory: laden with lies and hyperbole.

The campaign ad is so ridiculously misleading Politifact undertook a run at a review. Before we embed the ad, take a look at a Politifact graphic along with a linked review.

Footage of ‘Mexican Border’ In Newest Trump Ad Is Actually in Morocco

However, the Trump ad presented the Morocco footage as the Mexican border. “He’ll stop illegal immigration by building a wall on our southern border that Mexico will pay for,” the narration claims, while the caption reads “STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.” 

It’s possible that the inclusion of misleading footage was accidental. But oddly enough, the Republican TV logo and time codes were both cropped out for the ad. 

Politifact awarded Trump a “Pants on Fire” for the ad, their lowest possible rating. But the Trump campaign addressed the discrepancy in a, uh, unique statement to NBC.

Chris Christie will be spending ad dollars in New Hampshire on an add that starts with a false Christie comments on leadership and ends with and ends way off the mark. Christie has yet to speak about one item during his terms as New Jersy Governor that speaks to his qualifications to lead a nation.

Rubio’s latest campaign ad is also flawed from the beginning. When a GOP candidate has to start a campaign ad with “Barack Obama”  as the first words, you know the ad is aimed solely at low information highly emotional GOP voters and American conservatives.  Herewith is the ad spot:

Here is the perfect example of how low information Americans are fed unabashed lies via conservative media and their politicians.  Rubio spoke of detainees held and released from GITMO. Before Gitmo let’s also deal with the major terrorist released in US history: Abu Bakr al Baghdadi.  A common conservative belief from the scripts of conservative media is the release of the current ISIS leader.

Fox New’s Pirro commented on Obama’s 2009 released of the ISIS leader from US incarceration.  The Tampa Bay Time’s Pundifact reviewed the claim:

Again Rubio starts is over-the-top make-up laden spot with the words “Barack Obama” and moves immediately to GITMO releases.  Both George W. Bush and President Obama have released detainees from GITMO.  Politifact addressed a 2009 release claim from Congressman Steny Hoyer. 

Can Rubio provide evidence that only detainees released by Obama returned to the battlefield?  The question is rhetorical, of course, he cannot provide such proof.

It certainly will not take long for a GOP candidate to develop an ad based on Rubio’s almost total absence from the US Senate. If Rubio leverages PAC money to ride the waves of the GOP primaries along with ten plus other candidates, someone will surely revisit his use of GOP funds to enjoy a lifestyle most of us envy.

It appears the 2016 campaign season will be laced with ridiculous ads laden with fear and populated with conservative lies and hyperbole.
