The ultimate carnival barker

When a political candidate (and the party he leads) draws neo-nazis and white supremacists like Flies, it opens itself up for deeper affiliation with hate groups.  Media Matters reports on one such case.

A Convention of Fear!

If you spent any time this morning on political news and it your are a progressive or liberal, you probably saw the following segments. If you you did not fall into any of the delineated scenarios, you should take a few minutes for a perspective on Trump and US conservatism, you will not find on any other cable network.  The segments are eight plus and seven pus minutes respectively. Yet, when we think of our nation, and the coming elections, it is time well spent. Informed people make intelligent decisions. Uninformed people elect demagogues like Donald Trump, and they may follow a devolving political party in to the gutter of bigotry, racism and social elitism.

Americans And Their Movies: A Propagandists Field Of Dreams

In Andrea Mitchell, Donald Trump Lies, False reality of movies, http://schemas.google.com/blogger/2008/kind#post, Media Matters, Politifact, The 13th Hour on January 17, 2016 at 8:22 PM

Last November, I published a piece following a rash of GOP pundit embraces of a few fictional movie and cable series show themes. Americans in general, are becoming all too consumed with creative dramatic depictions of life from people who earn millions with various productions. While the sad phenomenon is shared across the population, It is becoming obvious conservatives view the world from perspectives easily influenced by creative minds; in many cases with conservative agendas.

One glaring example of the movie as life phenomenon was offered by a popular early morning talk show host. MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough recently used on-air broadcast minutes to suggest President Obama pattern his strategy against ISIS after a character in Showtime’s Homeland. The piece is linked, here.  The piece also includes a Fox News (based on fictional characters) segment with that network’s former number one “leg and thigh” host: Grethen Carlson.

Is there really a surprise the GOP has a leading presidential candidate who is a reality show WWE carnival barker?  If on-air conservative talking heads base even moderate amounts of their demagoguery on television shows and movies, what is a rational American to think? Rational and informed Americans know entertainment projects, even if loosely based on reality, are the brainchild of creative minds. There is a major distinction between creative minds developing movie projects that the creative mind that leads to fact-based documentaries. The perfect example of such is the significant difference in documentaries from the mind and wherewithal of historian Ken Burns vs. the total anti-Obama garbage developed and sold by (felon) Dinesh Di Souza.

The difference is as stark as GOP core values on Civil Rights, Women’s’ Rights, and LGBT Rights. One film developer goes about his work with a mission to capture and exhibit US history, while entertainer viewers. The latter goes about his work with the express intent of attacking and disparaging a sitting US President, while sharing paid for comments from people and circumstances easily passed off as truth, but embodies nothing more than propaganda.

In much more simple terms. Di Souza has a motive and mission via his work that contrast greatly with the historical archiving mission of ken Burns.

The upcoming release of Micahel Bay’ “The 13 Hour”, is receiving similar scrutiny.  Conservatives are anxiously awaiting first showing of the Bay project for its potential impact on Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State during terror attacks on the US Consulate in Libya (AKA “BENGHAZI”). “Benghazi”, that common conservative rebel yell that sits second to the more familiar conservative refrain of “USA, USA, USA.” While conservative media is posturing the project as bay obviously wished anti-Obama Administration (specifically anti-Clinton), some slightly more progressive media pundits are falling for the potential hype. Before I post what follows from News Busters, recognize I referred to the MSNBC host as “slightly more progressive” than the standard Fox News host. Andrea Mitchell is no progressive.

News Busters:

On her MSNBC show on Monday, host Andrea Mitchell derided the film 13 Hours, opening in theaters nationwide on Friday: “That new film about Benghazi coming out this week could give wider circulation to conspiracy theories, despite denials, that CIA operatives were told to stand down and not rescue four Americans, including an ambassador, who died in that assault.”

Moments later, Mitchell insisted: “…just last week I was interviewing Leon Panetta, who headed the Pentagon, and he and CIA top officials are denying to the Benghazi select committee that this ever happened.” In that same interview, Panetta endorsed Hillary Clinton for president – hardly an objective source about one of the major scandals plaguing the Democratic candidate….

Conservative affinity for grabbing “Benghazi” as a tool against Hillary Clinton is as pathetic as Ben Carson’s recent GOP Debate comments. Carson appears to have borrowed a response to a debate question via tapping into nuclear promulgation (fusion or fission) prospects delineated in movies. Of course, most know Carson suffers from some sort of mental deprivation, but he exhibited yet another example of GOP via movies and cinema.

Excerpt

During Thursday evening’s Republican debate, Ben Carson referenced a particularly strange threat to the United States — an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) deployed by an enemy to wipe out America’s electrical grid:

Now we have dirty bombs and we have cyber attacks and we have people who will be attacking our electrical grid. And you know, we have a whole variety of things that they can do and they can do these things simultaneously. And we have enemies who are obtaining nuclear weapons that they can explode in ourexoatmosphere and destroy our electric grid. So think about a scenario like that. They explode the bomb; we have electromagnetic pulse.

Carson is referring to a common version of the EMP fear: a nuclear weapon detonated high up in the atmosphere, thus supposedly sending an electromagnetic blast that would destroy electronics.

VOX also published this piece on the Michael Bay movie.

Talking Points Memo

He said enemies want to attack “our electrical grid”

Describing an ominous string of threats that internet users noticed bore a striking resemblance to the plot of the alien invasion movie “Independence Day,” Carson said the state of modern warfare has changed in ways the President “doesn’t realize.”
“The fact of the matter is, [Obama] doesn’t realize that we now live in the 21st century, and that war is very different than it used to be before,” Carson said. “Not armies, massively marching on each other and air forces, but now we have dirty bombs and we have cyber attacks and we have people who will be attacking our electrical grid.”
The doomsaying neurosurgeon went on: “We have enemies who are obtaining nuclear weapons that they can explode in our exoatmosphere and destroy our electric grid. Just think about a scenario like that. They explode the bomb, we have an electromagnetic pulse. They hit us with a cyberattack simultaneously and dirty bombs. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue at that point?”
The Movie “The 13th Hour?” While I will not watch Bay’s Movie, it is important to share comments from sources that have, or are, delving into the cinema project.

Media matters recently published a piece that details how Michael Bay, the 13th Hour Producer/Director, used debunked Benghazi reports to entertain people who view movies as documentaries.

Media Matters (Four Big Lies)
Conservatives have falsely accused the administration of lying about the cause of the attack, issuing a “stand down” order, failing to send aid to the facility, and dismissing the deaths of the victims. But every “bombshell” has turned out to be a dud. 13 Hours may give Fox News the highly dramatized Benghazi story it’s been hoping for, but years of actual investigations have thoroughly deflated the right-wing Benghazi fantasy:

Kudos to Media Matters!

I re-state: “Is there any wonder why Donald Trump is doing so well among people who find his celebrity a major attraction?” The reality show-Manhattan developer continues to entertain conservatives despite glowing evidence he rarely, if ever, speak the truth.

Let’s end with a quick fact-check series regarding the manhattan carnival barker.

The Daily GOP Ignominious: GOP Debate 5 (The Shame Of It All)

In Carson. Sheldon Adelson, Chris Matthews, Fiorina, GOP 2016, GOP debate 5, http://schemas.google.com/blogger/2008/kind#post, Lindsey Graham, Media Matters, Politifact, Trump, Your GOP on December 17, 2015 at 10:46 AM

Let’s start our review of the GOP debates with the most unfathomable comment of the two debate four hour night: Lindsey Graham misses who?

https://youtu.be/DJo1ux913Wc

From Lindsey Graham’s obvious attempt to excite the debate (GOP) audience via his insane lament for George W. Bush what better way to capture a quick view of the GOP debate than a quick video visual of who talked and what they talked about.

Back to the main stage. Trump exposes a severe lack of knowledge of a communication’s media, the Internet, he spends as much time using as sitting for a hair comb-over.  He doesn’t understand even the basics of the Internet. Yet, he posits and declares his wish to have the Internet restricted in the United States. What ever happened to a GOP that formerly claimed the US constitution as their bible.

https://youtu.be/eY7FIS028u8

That was purely farcical and some in the audience let Trump know their thoughts about his rhetoric on the Internet.

The US economy is not a topic that garners even moderate comment from the GOP.  Evidence of an economy that may have moved into the realm of post-Bush healed.

Trump is the consummate politician.  He claims to have only exist as a politician for the past six months; no…. any and all CEOs, business owners and the uber wealthy are (in some form) politicians. This weeks’ GOP debates again showed the extent our celebrity worship and silliness surrounding Trump’s campaign for the GOP nomination. His actions were those of a spoiled child with nothing more than insults to carry him through two hours on the debate stage.

One example of his complete and utter unpreparedness for any political office was embodied in his response regarding the nation’s defense “Triad.”

Check out the shallowness and the manner in which Rubio jumped to explain it while off-handed poking at Trumps lack of knowledge.  Trump stumbled; Rubio explained.

And, that is how an exposed carnival barker appears after being caught ill-equipped to answer a question.  For those who would say, it is too early for Trump to have such knowledge, wait until he wins the election and gets that first Security Briefing.  If you thought such your shallowness is also now exposed and you are caught walking into the Trump carnival tent.  If you and I know what the term denotes, certainly  we should expect similar from one who aspires to have his fingers on the Red Button.

Trump was also exposed after the debate as a schmoozing operator as he sat for a few minutes with, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.  As Trump joined Matthews he spent strategic time praising Matthews (“…good show’), and lavishing a bit of praise on the MSNBC contributor who also sat on the platform (“This is is a real professional”).  But, take a look at how Matthews maneuvered Trump into his past over-the-top racist birtherism

Speaking of “birtherism”, Trump hasn’t once commented about Cruz like birth-right.  Has Trump’s avoiding the same questions against Cruz an indication of Trump’s aversion to the African-American in the White House?

No review of Tuesday night would be complete without exposure of Carly Fiorina as the literally lying fraud of a candidate.  Her assertion of a string of general replaced by Obama did not make it pass even a basic fact check.  First of all, Petraeus was nor removed as a military general due to “not telling Obama what he wanted to hear.” He was removed from the battlefield and given the Director of the CIA job and promptly lost that job due to his pillow talk and sharing defense secrets with a concubine journalist.

Special Atteniton on Fiorina via Politifact

Fiorina

“One of the things I would immediately do … is bring back the warrior class — Petraeus, McChrystal, Mattis, Keane, Flynn. … Every one was retired early because they told President Obama things that he didn’t want to hear.”

— Carly Fiorina on Tuesday, December 15th, 2015 in a GOP debate on CNN

As reported via the Rachel Maddow Show, Fox News also sought to check on Fiorina’s (fired the generals) lie. Note Obama hater Stuart Varney’s team programmed one of Fiorina’s generals; the segment didn’t go as I am sure Fox News hoped.

Media Matters

There was yet another exmaple of the big oops from the GOP deabagte stage. Fox News’s Brett Baier cornered Cruz for I am certain what Cruz thought was a sterling opportunity to overwhlem Baier’s audience with smooth talk.  It didn’t go according to Hoyle. Unfoertuanltey, the Baier segmetn is 3:46 mintues..skip through it. wehy expsoe yourself to that many minutes of Cruz’s rhetoric.

  Double OOPS!
One other really intriguing tidbit about the GOP Circa 2016. The nation’s number one uber wealthy contributor to “all things GOP, apparently met with four “top GOP candidates.” Well, in the linked segment (10:45 mark to the 11:09 mark) Jeb Bush is in the group of four, but no Ben Carson.  Wonder why? (linked)

Benghazi Committee Subterfuge Is Oozing From The House Chambers (Video)

In Benghazi Facr sheet. Dem Video, CNN, Get Hillary, GOP 2016, http://schemas.google.com/blogger/2008/kind#post, Kevin McCarthy, Media Matters, Trey Gowdy on October 11, 2015 at 4:34 PM

In January 2011, a former South Carolina prosecutor and Republican politician, Trey Gowdy, was sworn in the US Congress. How can it be in Gowdy’s third term in the US Congress the ambitious former prosecutor could have allowed himself to be drawn into the inner core of a political party that practices deceit and dirty tricks politics comparable to no other time in US History?

Embedded image permalink

In 2014, Gowdy was appointed as the chair of the GOP Benghazi Committee. Does the following Open Congress information qualify as competent to chair such a critical congressional committee?

Since he took office in 2011:

1 Sponsored Bills (Ranks 428 of 440) 0 Made Into Law (Ranks 41 of 440)
77 Co-Sponsored Bills (Ranks 392 of 441) 4 Made Into Law (Ranks 69 of 441)

Or, did his background as a prosecutor so enamor GOP leadership, it established the nascent congressman as imminently qualified. Better yet, was there behind the scenes maneuvering with Gowdy showing a willingness to play the “hunt Hillary Game?”

It seems Gowdy has performed well in working towards sabotaging the nomination aspirations of Hillary Clinton. The linked fact sheet speaks to the level and scope of Gowdy as the good GOP more solid vs. Gowdy as the honest fact seeking Benghazi Committee Chair (as promised).  Reports of incessant leaks from the Committee ay have genesis from Gowdy’s leadership. The fact sheet and incessant links actually pale when factored against recent comments from House speaker aspirant Kevin McCarthy and this Democrat video.

There seems to exist a committee investigator who for whatever reason is coming clean on what he reports as “get Hillary” responsibilities that failed and led to termination from his investigators role. The US Army Reserve Major delivered a bombshell admission that adds validity to McCarthy’s statements and confirmation what we on the Left have known since the first mention of a Benghazi Select Committee.

MediaMatters

From an October 10 New York Times report:

A former investigator for the Republicans on the House Select Committee on Benghazi plans to file a complaint in federal court next month alleging that he was fired unlawfully in part because his superiors opposed his efforts to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the 2012 attack on the American diplomatic mission in the Libyan city. Instead, they focused primarily on the role of the State Department and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, he said.

The former investigator, Bradley F. Podliska, a major in the Air Force Reserve who is on active duty in Germany, also claims that the committee’s majority staff retaliated against him for taking leave for several weeks to go on active duty. If true, the retaliation would violate the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994, which Major Podliska plans to invoke in his complaint, according to a draft that was made available to The New York Times.

Podliska was also interviewed by CNN’s Jake Tapper. In the October 11 interview on State of the Union, Podliska claimed the “partisan investigation” shifted focus to almost exclusively focus on Clinton after it was reported that she utilized a private email server. Podliska told Tapper, “The victims’ families are not going to get the truth and that’s the most unfortunate thing about this.”

Reservist Major hired by Benghazi Committee was fired!

Media Matters has extensively documented that Fox News and the conservative media have been one of the driving forces behind the creation of the House Benghazi Committee, particularly its focus on Clinton.

After McCarthy’s remarks, Gowdy has been all too willing to appear on CNN and Fox News to refute McCarthy’s revelation.  He like John Boehner has railed about McCarthy statements as the wrong equal to the level of noise and silliness emanating from Donald Trumps GOP 2015 campaign.

Why then has Gowdy refused to go on CNN to address the terminated investigator?

Trey Gowdy (R-SC), the chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, reportedly declined to appear on CNN’s “State of the Union” program Sunday to address allegations made by an ex-staffer of the committee.

The staffer, Bradley Podliska, who was an investigator on the committee for 10 months, told news outlets Saturday that he planned to file a federal lawsuit against the committee for wrongful termination.

Podliska said that he was terminated, in part, for refusing to focus his investigation on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

The committee responded to The New York Times‘ request for comment on Saturday in a letter.

Days later and on consecutive days, the Times posted corrections to the July 23 article. The corrections clearly point to the Time’s failure in verifying information it received from what is being referred to as anonymous sources.   (Linked: to comply with NYT copyright notices, also linked : July 23, 2015 above)
Now let’s go back to March 2015 and watch MSNBC’s morning conservative crew attempt to corner David Brock, Media Matters founder, regarding the New York Times “story.” Arch conservative Bob Woodward, even attempted to label the story “a good story.”

After Brzezinski stated. “I am not sure what planet I am one,” the interview came to a fairly non-productive end. But the segment was not broadcast for issues resolution talk. It was broadcast to do exactly what it accomplished, feeding the minds and psyches of MSNBC morning conservative viewers.

Brzezinski should probably seek more often to determine what planet “she is on.”

The Independent Journal finished their online report as follows.

Brock said The New York Times was hoodwinked by the ‘dying’ Benghazi scandal, and that Congress wanted a ‘fishing expedition’ into Mrs. Clinton’s email:

“The New York Times got snookered by the Benghazi folks.”

Now jump forward to July 23rd and the current revelations of New York Times reporting as flawed and inaccurate. Why would an alleged storied print publication fail in its chartered mission to provide news and related information tot he public?

Vox’s Jonathan Allen Implicates Trey Gowdy In The NY Times Botched Clinton Emails Story

July 29, 2015 12:42 PM EDT ››› NICHOLAS ROGERS

Vox’s Jonathan Allen suggested that House Benghazi Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy knew about the request to the Justice Department regarding Hillary Clinton’s email practices “at least a day” before The New York Times published its botched story relying on anonymous sources that “had it wrong” according to “a top-ranking editor directly involved” with the report.

On July 23, the Times published a report headlined “Criminal Inquiry Sought In Clinton’s Use Of Email” which stated that “[t]wo inspectors general have asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into whether Hillary Rodham Clinton mishandled sensitive government information on a private email account she used as secretary of state.” The Times has since issued two corrections, acknowledging that the referral in question was not criminal and did not specifically request an investigation into Clinton herself. They have yet to correct the piece’s remaining error to indicate that the referral was actually made by only one inspector general.

While March Morning Joe segment and the eventually revelations about the New York Times being “snookered”, appears as very different issues, we do not feel as such and we find the continuing efforts to derail Hillary Clinton’s candidacy a typical GOP operative issues replete with potential leaks from “high government” officials who happen to be Republican.

Two final points. The issue of Clinton’s use of a private emails server isn’t an issue we will stand tall and argue in defense, as we feel she should not have maintained the serve at her home. We admit to reticence regarding Clinton’s decision to store information outside of government computer systems. However, we note White House systems have recently suffered Russian hacks as well as a year long Chinese intrusion via the  into  OPM computer systems. Are US government computers systems actually more secure the the serve Clinton used?  We have no evidence it was hacked or violated via international adversaries.

The last point. We hope someone will offer Mika Brzezinski an opportunity to “phone home” from that planet on which see seems to inhabit.

It didn’t matter that the American champion extended her mastery of her craft with over 20 Grand Slam victories; it did matter that his preference regradign Williams was not fulfilled.

You may have noticed my chagrin with the prospect American media would hand Frum a pass on what could only be described as privilege conferred at birth. “since taking office, President Obama has proposed a whopping 442 tax increases” and asking, “how much more can the government take from the affluent without crashing the entire free market economy?”:

Didn’t O’Reilly recently decry the state of journalism has deteriorated to nothingness?

Ted Cruz and the nascent Tom Cotton continue their preaching to conservatives about issues that are so far and away “non-issues.” Both Cruz and Cotton should be ashamed to climb up on a stage with an oral cavities full of lies. They remind of Cruz’s father who all too often prancing around a stage spewing rhetoric like a Nazi Minister of Communications. Cotton recently invoked The Third Reich during a speech on the senate floor. He and Cruz continue to assuage the high cost of unnecessary defense spending while spewing fear: Cruz, “Your world is on fire.”  The junior Senators espouse such spending to garner favor from the defense industry without concern for the dangers inherent in “war by spending.”

During his first speech on the Senate floor the “defense contractor’s dream” and Israel Emergency Committee donation recipient fulfilled his role with ever-present fear politics from the Right

This 1:42 minute segment from Huffington Post shows what we can expect from Tom Cotton. He has filled a Senate seat for far less than six months and he saber rattles as blatantly as any Senator in recent US history. I believe the de facto Senate leader mentioned Adolf Hitler within the first few seconds of his speech.

“The world is growing ever more dangerous, and our defense spending is wholly inadequate to confront the danger,” Cotton said.

Let’s take a look. Even considering Putin’s alleged increased defense spending, the following chart depicts a problem for Cotton.

The “Big Spenders” for 2012/2013.

If the horizontal chart doesn’t work for you, try this one from 2014:

Is this an example of why elected official like Cotton can snuggle up to defense contractors without reprisal from voters? Fox News delivers:

Pure Poppycock February 12, 2013…..

And, the accompanying video and the linked piece. (Key reading points)

Hemmer explained that, “We just wanted to give viewers at home an idea about what countries are doing over the past four years and the coming four years from here,” and that for the current year on defense spending, “China goes up, Russia goes up, and the U.S. remains flat when compared to these other two countries.” In the next four years, Hemmer claimed, “on the percentage they will contribute on their defense budget, China is about 300 percent increase, Russia’s not too far behind, [and] the United States is not only flat, but it’s trailing now as we move toward the year 2015.” The graph segued into a discussion with Fox military analyst Major General Robert Scales on how cuts to the U.S. defense budget will harm our military capacity.

Fox’s chart, focused exclusively on growth in defense spending across a specific period of time compared to 2004 budgets, suggests China and Russia are far out-scaling the U.S. on defense spending. But date constraints and percentage change in budgets are meaningless outside the context of actual expenditure. Hemmer conveniently disregarded the actual dollar amount the U.S. spends on defense compared to China and Russia.

The U.S. spends more on defense than the next 12 top-spending countries combined. PolitiFact examined data by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) and the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), both “considered to be leading authorities on worldwide military spending numbers,” and determined that, “In 2011 — the most recent year available — the United States led the world in military spending at $711 billion … The next top 12 spending nations accounted for a combined total of $670.9 billion.” IISS data discovered that the U.S spends $252.6 billion more on defense than the next top nine nations

Oh, the fallacy of it all.  While the vast majority of military spending funds Maintenance and Operations, US wars also take a major bite from military spending budgets.

If we factor-in the real prospect of a Ted Cruz and Tom Cotton war with Iran, we are taken to a place he US showed avoid like a Republican in the White House.

A quick look at one US market indicator from Bush’s final years through Obama’s first four years, clearly shows why demagogues like Cotton, Cruz et al present a clear and present danger.

Do not fail to recall the Bush economy collapsed based on perpetrating two wars while cutting taxes coupled with an artificial and fraud laced sub-prime bubble.

A Republican in the White House with a Congress as it exist today?
