Ist 2015 Facebook Gallery From The TPI

In Ist 2015 Facebook Gallery, Lindsey Graham, Scalise's white supremacist snuggling, Talking Points Memo, Trans Canada on January 4, 2015 at 5:38 PM

It is time for our first 2015 Facebook GOP Gallery visit. Our visits generally follow along the same path( a path strewn with misinformation insanity or lies) so our traipse will not surprise you.

Let’s start this Facebook journey with a bit of Koch schmoozing from a member of the US Congress. The Congressman continues to use the “lie statistic”, even after the CEO of Trans Canada, during an interview with ABC Newsfailed to solidly make the claim of 42,000 jobs via construction of the Keystone XL PipelineOf course, we realize the GOP members of congress have only one television information source, one radio information source and one major website for right wing chatter (The Drudge Report), but to continue the lie is unfathomable. And the congressman in the embed that follows is a Medical doctor!

Really? It does not matter to this republican that a leader in the House of Representatives attended an spoke at a white supremacist event. She doesn’t are that he is reported to have snuggled up to other racist groups.  Of course, we know exactly why she wants the nation to move on. Isn’t she new to the US Congress?  Well, that brings forth an old adage.

Lindsey Graham proves he is infested with racism and flirts with outright sedition. Didn’t he learn from his orgasmic experience over Putin?

Keystone XL And A Senate Energy Bill Killed By The GOP

In Alex Wagner, Ed Schultz, Keystone XL Pipeline. Koch brothers, The Public Lands Renewable Energy Development Act of 2011, Trans Canada on May 13, 2014 at 9:31 PM

Senate Republicans (select Democrats) kill an energy bill passed expeditiously through the US House. THE TEA PARTY LADEN US HOUSE PASSED THE BILL!  It is important to know the GOP attempted to attach approval of the Keystone Pipeline to the bill.
_________________________

If you are not aware of the nuances of the Keystone Pipeline, you are relegating yourself to the world of the LIV: the Low Information Voter.

I will spare the wealth of information previously posted on the site.  Instead, I offer a couple of cogent and very relevant MSNBC segments. It is important to say the Keystone Pipeline is a tool to transport oil derivatives to international markets. Is not a project that will assist in energy independence for the United states. The US has moved to one of the world’s most prolific developers of oil derivatives and with the horrific advent of Hydraulic FRACKING, is a world leader in energy development.

Moreover, the Keystone XL Pipeline has a long-term jobs impact that the level of 35 jobs!

One last point.  The Koch Brothers one significant land holdings in Alberta Canada. The land is each with oil deviates that will transport via the Keystone XL Pipeline. The following Washington Post headlines tells the story on GOP drive to build the XL Pipeline:

“The biggest foreign lease holder in Canada’s oil sands isn’t Exxon Mobil or Chevron. It’s the Koch brothers.”

If you have any degree of deductive reasoning, you are well equipped to follow the logic.  If the Koch’s own 1/1 million acres in tar sand laden Alberta Canada and the Kochs are staunch Libertarian conservatives (with $80 billion collectively), is it a leap to recognize the potential for anyone (politician or greedy pundit) willing and able to assist in development of the pipeline?

Why give the Kochs and Canada opportunity to make more billions, while you and me take the risks? Remember, BP has declared no more money to revitalize the Gulf of Mexico and that is within five years of killing an eco-system.

Keystone XL Project Equals 35 Permanent Jobs!

In Keystone XL Pipeline, Trans Canada, Van Jones on February 11, 2014 at 8:34 AM

I am also findng it impossible to believe people are actually falling in-line behind approval of this project . Even MSNBC’s Ed Schultz has caved in support of Nothern Leg approval. Why hand the Koch brothers bllions more, lay waste to large swaths of pristine Nothern midwest states breadbasket land, to provide oil products to Asia?  Job?  Read on!

Jones

The Keystone pipeline creates “35 permanent jobs” after construction, according to a government report.

Van Jones on Monday, February 3rd, 2014 in a segment on CNN’s “Crossfire”
CNN’s Van Jones says Keystone pipeline only creates 35 permanent jobs

The debate over whether President Barack Obama should approve the Keystone XL pipeline often turns to jobs, but should it? Liberal CNN Crossfire host Van Jones says the pipeline is not the jobs creator supporters talk it up to be.

“Every time we have a show, somebody says something … about Keystone, and somehow Keystone is going to create all these jobs,” Jones said in the Feb. 3 episode of Crossfire. “Then it turns out, look at the actual numbers. It turns out the actual numbers are 3,900 temporary jobs in the construction sector and 35 permanent jobs.”

Ralph Reed, a conservative activist who founded the Faith and Freedom Coalition, said Jones’ claim is unfair because a long-anticipated report by the U.S. State Department says the project will create 42,000 jobs. Reed went on to say the report cleared the main argument against the project, that it’s bad for the environment.

We are fact-checking claims from each pundit about the project. Here, we’ll focus on Jones’ claim about the project creating “35 permanent jobs.”

The proposed Keystone XL pipeline would stretch 875 miles from Western Canada to Steele City, Neb., where it would connect with existing pipelines and usher 830,000 barrels of crude oil per day to refineries on the Gulf Coast.

Because TransCanada’s project crosses international borders, the company had to file an application for a presidential permit. As part of the process, the president directs the Secretary of State to determine whether the project “serves the national interest.” Secretary of State John Kerry has not yet issued a recommendation to Obama based on the study.

Obama is under political pressure from all sides, with environmentalists and Democrats like Jones on one side who want him to shut it down and Republicans and some Democrats supportive of organized labor on the other who say it would strengthen the country’s energy independence and, yes, create jobs.

When the State Department released its 11-volume report about the pipeline’s impact Jan. 31, 2014, the big headline in most news coverage centered on its finding that the pipeline project would not significantly contribute to carbon pollution. Some see that as giving Obama an opening for approval.

With that backstory out of the way, let’s crack open the chapter on jobs.

There’s plenty of debate over how many jobs the project would create during construction.

The State Department report puts the total at 42,100 jobs, though the definition of a job in this sense is a position filled for one year. Much of the construction work would come in four- or or eight-month stretches. About 10,400 seasonal workers would be recruited for construction, the State Department said.

When looked at as “an average annual job,” it works out to about 3,900 jobs over one year of construction or 1,950 jobs each year for two years.

The rest of the jobs would be the result of spillover spending (formally called indirect or induced economic activity) as Keystone workers buy equipment and materials to complete the project and spend their money on an array of services, including food, health care, and arts and entertainment. As you might expect, it’s much harder to measure the widespread effect on job creation.

There’s no doubting that most of the economic activity comes during construction. Jones honed in on jobs after construction, which aren’t really a source of sharp debate.

“There’s very few jobs operating pipelines,” said Ian Goodman, president of the Goodman Group Ltd., an energy and economic consulting firm in Berkeley, Calif. “That’s one of the reasons why pipelines are attractive to the oil industry. They’re relatively inexpensive to build and operate.”

The report says the project would provide jobs for about 35 permanent employees and 15 temporary contractors.

The full-timers would be “required for annual operations, including routine inspections, maintenance and repair.” Some would work in Canada. The U.S. employees would work at pump stations along the pipeline route as well as a Nebraska office.

The project’s impact on housing, property taxes and service industries once in operation? Not much. Not much is known about the contractors’ workload except they would provide additional specialized support.

Still, arguments about the relatively small number of permanent jobs from the pipeline often belie the nature of construction jobs, which are comprised of temporary projects by definition, said Matt Dempsey, a spokesman for a coalition of pro-Keystone groups known as Oil Sands Fact Check.

“You build it, you move on,” Dempsey said.

Our ruling

Jones said the Keystone pipeline will only result in 35 permanent jobs after construction.

The numbers, as reported by the State Department, back him up, though that’s the nature of any big construction project, be it a highway or monument.

Jones’ claim is True.

Keystone XL Pipeline: The Ugly, The Bad And The Secret Funnel!

In Citizens United, Congress, Keystone XL Pipeline, lobbyist, SCOTUS, Trans Canada on September 8, 2013 at 10:17 AM

If you approve of a Canadian corporation building yet another pipeline across the heart of the American Midwest, that is your prerogative.  If you oppose Obama’s potential approval of the northern leg of the Keystone XL Pipeline, as an American, that is also your prerogative. Before, moving-on, I am anticipating you know Trans Canada has an existing Keystone Pipeline (See bold red pipeline in 2011 MCT image, left). The XL project is a “brontosaurus” version surrounded by a protecvtive moot of lies (jobs), misrepresentations (safety and jobs), and financial contributions (Congress, lobbyist, surrogates and stooges across party lines).  Most Americans have no idea there is active development and funding of a ‘secret’ pipeline that is even more dangerous to the nation than the XL pipeline.

On August 15, 2013 USdailyrepresent Dot US’s Jasper McChesney published an infographic about the secret pipeline (posted below). The secrecy surrounding this pipeline is focused on you, me and others who allow ourselves to continue as unknowing subjects in the active and flourishing world of international corporatism.

While the secret pipeline is as old as US history it has grown with time to a reliable funnel of contributions to political campaigns.  The funnel was given a major fissure with the SCOTUS ruling on the Citizens United case in 2010.

The Daily GOP Ignominious: Keystone XL Pipeline, GOP Support And "Snuggling" Animals!

In Keystone XL Pipeline, President Obama, Trans Canada on August 28, 2013 at 5:00 PM

Did you know Keystone Pipeline already exists? Trans Canada wants a larger XL  Extension!

Would you like to be reminded of how Big Business Big Oil, Lobbyist, law firms and advertisers manipulate you, me and public opinion?

The ultimate example is a 30 second Keystone XL Pipeline commercial running on national television. The “ad spot” is running on networks that appear to draw viewers seeking news related information.

The 30 second spot!

Allow me to leave a question that I will answer in a few minutes.

The question.  “What about the advertisement stands out like an oil leak in your driveway or garage? What is missing from the advertisement?  The answer will follow.

I have seen the advertisement on both MSNBC, and CNN (as sparingly as I watch CNN), yet not of Fox News.  Frankly, I void Fox News like a path lined with rattlesnakes; thus viewing over there is practically impossible. However, we must factor-in another dynamic. Fox News serves as the GOP’s television media outlet, so there is no need to spend thousands on the thirty second spot.

A decision on construction of the northern leg of the Keystone XL Pipeline still awaits the Obama Administration. Apparently in March of 2012President Obama spoke favorably about the southern leg of the Keystone XL Pipeline (AKA the Gulf Coast Pipeline), and construction is almost complete.
If you are a high information person, you know the  XL Pipeline is at the center of much back and forth regrading approval or non-approval. Frankly, I feel President Obama will acquiesce and approve the Northern leg; and that will be very much to my personal chagrin.

The pipeline traverses far too much of North America for me to feel at all comfortable about the inevitable pipeline breaks, leaks and other maladies. Maladies that always occur when transporting fossil fuel derivatives.

If we provide a look at the skeleton foundation of US gas and oil pipelines the image looks busier and more intricate than our highway and road systems. Take a look!

If you spend a few minutes on the PropublicaPipeline Safety Tracker” you will find these man-made tubes are also dangerous to human life in the form of work related accidents.  Linked here

A pipeline horror that can potentially affect every person who lives in the United States is depicted in this, and associated, graphics.

The article associated with the “toxic liquid spills” graphic reveals even more unnecessary pipeline horrors.

Excerpt
This summer, an Exxon Mobil pipeline carrying oil across Montana burst suddenly, soiling the swollen Yellowstone River with an estimated 42,000 gallons of crude just weeks after a company inspection and federal review had found nothing seriously wrong.
And in the Midwest, a 35-mile stretch of the Kalamazoo River near Marshall, Mich., once teeming with swimmers and boaters, remains closed nearly 14 months after an Enbridge Energy pipeline hemorrhaged 843,000 gallons of oil that will cost more than $500 million to clean up.
While investigators have yet to determine the cause of either accident, the spills have drawn attention to oversight of the 167,000-mile system of hazardous liquid pipelines crisscrossing the nation.

Trans Canada has an active and busy website devoted to the Keystone XL Pipeline.  As you view website header info below, you might find an answer to the question posted above.   Of course, most of you quickly discerned the manipulative aspects of the 30 second advertisement.  Let’s move to Trans Canada.

Energy Security

We have written and posited much Trans Canada’s spending on lobbying for pipeline construction. There is no need to rehash those figures and implied messages and data from the reading.

Before we finish with a couple of additional examples of what appears ‘cash for speak’, the answer to the questions above.

Trans Canada and “slick” consultants, lawyers, and advertising agency professionals intentionally left the word, “pipeline” from the ad spot.  Why would that be a desired state? Why would I not want you looking at my eye , if I had a black, blue or well-punched eye?  What is it about the word pipeline that it was left from the ad spot? If you are still wondering why, look above. Pipelines are not safe! –The Pardu

We suggest it is yet another form of mind altering manipulation. Manipulation at which the GOP and the nation’s conservatives have sharpened such when compared to a razor blade, the blade would appear dull.  The Right has operatives and highly paid professionals who have taken Nixon’s CREEP Team tricksters craft to a much highly and more cerebral level. Now, you might say, “The GOP had nothing to do with the Trans Canada advertisement. Really think a bit deeper.

Approve the Keystone (P_ _ _  l _ ne) XL!

While on this topic, allow another example of “the spin.” If you want to really see how low we have gone with cognitive exploration of topics watch these three (highly compensated) buffoons.  The segment is so much about minutia, I suggest a quick view of the beginning of the segment and pick it up again at the 2:45 mark.  “Animals warming and snuggling under the pipeline!”

The Kudlow Report

Three questions:

1. If the data above is accurate, and we trust it without question, what happens if the XL PIPELINE breaks into the Mississippi River? There is a fissure from the main pipeline across the nation’s most  critical inland transport artery. Thus, concern for all who live in the United States.

2. Why did the Canadian province of Quebec reject an Enbridge Corp. Tar Sands pipeline (The Western Gateway) in part based  on a lack of adequate safety related response from Enbridge?  Better yet, why couldn’t Enbrigde respond if they pursed a western gateway to Asia?

3. Kudlow and CNBC….What is with the silly-dilly approach to the broadcast? Have we given up on making points to people who consider the XL Pipeline a critical issue? Are we not playing to the “giggly” crowd that has turned our television shows into laugh track filled expositions, reality shows, and Judge Judy type programs? Surely, the audience for the Kudlow Show is beyond “low information” tricks! ….AND THE BAND PLAYS ON…..

Keystone XL Looms; Obama Has Jobs Concerns!

In Environmental issues, Obama and the Environment, President Obama, The Progressive Influence, Trans Canada on July 28, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Pipelines leak, spill or simply disintegrate.  How much more can our environment take?  Why did Canadian Provinces deny approval of a pipelines to the Canadian East and West Coasts based on unanswered environmental questions?
If you are an informed person, you know Trans Canada, Corp. is seeking approval from the Obama Administration to build a trans national pipeline from Quebec, Canada to Port Arthur and Houston, Texas.  The Keystone XL Pipeline, if approved, would also have pipeline fissures across the heart of the Midwest; fissures that would involve construction across to the nation’s major waterway: the Mississippi River.  Consider the spills table above and think about a Trans Canada contaminated Mississippi River!

The Keystone Pipeline already exist.  Trans Canada is seeking a expanded version of the pipeline: the Keystone “XL” Project.   Prior to my following issues related to the Keystone project, apparently President Obama approved the Southern Leg of the XL Project.  The Northern Leg posses issues not common to the Southern Leg.

Critical issues are as follows:

Republicans have applied incessant pressure regarding Keystone XL Pipeline approval. A few noted Democrats (e.g. Harold Ford, Jr.) have also commented about the prospect of jobs associated with the project.  Jobs is a much a dog whistle for the GOP as their often used “food stamps” dog whistle.

President Obama after many months of quiet regarding the project has come-out with questions about the veracity of  pipeline jobs projections.

Huffington Post GREEN via Reuters

“Republicans have said that this would be a big jobs generator,” Obama said, according to the newspaper.

“There is no evidence that that’s true. The most realistic estimates are this might create maybe 2,000 jobs during the construction of the pipeline, which might take a year or two, and then after that we’re talking about somewhere between 50 and 100 jobs in an economy of 150 million working people.”

Credible sources have labelled Trans Canada ‘jobs’ estimates false and misleading.  We are hopeful President Obama continues his concern about inflated jobs numbers and factors-in (as we know he has) the amounts and level of contributions to ‘friendly’ US politicians.  The Keystone XL Pipeline is a project the US can do without for so very many reasons.

Democrat Goes XL Pipeline And Leaves A Question Of Why

In Chris Matthews, President Obama, Trans Canada on June 1, 2013 at 6:37 PM

Small image of the day!
The Progressive Influence has always taken strong and unyielding positions against the Keystone XL Pipeline. Our angst about the Trans Canada man-made structure across the heart of our nation was personified when we realized President Obama had previously approved the Southern Leg of the Pipeline. Some of us became outright indignant and outraged a few weeks back when we heard there is an existing Keystone Pipeline running north to south across the nation and Trans Canada simply wants an XL (much larger) version.

The following is asegment extracted  from a longer MSNBC segment with Chris Matthews, former Congressman Harold Ford, and Senator Sherrod Brown (D) Ohio. Towards the end of the segment, and embedded below, Ford’s comments about the XL Pipeline are particularly disturbing and perplexing. Disturbing for obvious reason; perplexing because we cannot understand motive from his remarks. As you view the video segments, know that Chris Matthews’ remarks about German rapid transit (rail),  airports and other infrastructure are dead-on.  I may not have been as attentive as I should have been, but I am not certain Brown added much at all to the discussion.

Democrats really should move the national dialog away from so-called scandals to forward-progressive issues that lead to jobs.  An improved employment rate and visible evidence of an improving infrastructure will go a long way on 2014. and that is the very reason the GOP will obstruct towards avoidance of those real improvements.

Listen to Harold Ford and wonder as do I about his motives.  Especially, as I consider the following information.

Keystone Pipeline and proposed XL project

Yes, the US already has a Keystone Pipeline. But, as is the case with all things “big business, big energy and big oil, nothing sits in a static state. Those with power to buy influence and wield political power musty have bigger (and by association more dangerous)

The Enbridge Pipeline (image below) rejected by British Columbia based on unanswered environmental questions.  If you have followed environmental and big oil news over the past few years  the question from British Columbia to Enbridge should be easy to guess.  The questions center on spills concerns and spill response issues/concerns. It seems British Columbia has their “ducks in order” when dealing with big energy.  Mother Jones reported on Friday.

For those who don’t follow posted links, you might want to read this from Mother Jones before you view the rejected proposed “Northern Gateway” pipeline.
Excerpt

The Northern Gateway would have run from the heart of the tar sands in Alberta, through British Columbia, and to an export terminal in Kitimat. Anti-pipeline activists in the US are cheering BC’s Gateway decision as a win against tar sands development. 350.org founder Bill McKibben sent around a statement shortly after the announcement:

For years the tar sands promoters have said: ‘if we don’t build Keystone XL the tar sands will get out some other way.’ British Columbians just slammed the door on the most obvious other way, so now it’s up to President Obama. If he approves Keystone XL he bails out the Koch Brothers and other tar sands investors; if he rejects the pipeline, then an awful lot of that crude is going to stay in the ground where it belongs.
Why dose the self-proclaim’ greatest nation of Earth trail other nations in handling matters that affect our infrastructure and issue sin dealing with big energy?  The answer is easy: money!
Harold Ford spoke in the video embeds above like the classic “Blue-Dog” Democrat.  He is so close to all things conservative he appears and sounds like a Fox News pundit.  A midst a productive conversation about how the Democratic Party succumbs to issues that accomplish nothing more than advancing the Republican agenda while freezing the nation in a state of infrastructure danger and embarrassment. As Chris Matthews makes great points about airports, high-speed rail and highway projects, Ford differentiates himself form “his party”, and mentions Keystone XL in the same sentence as the word “jobs.’
Jobs?
According to the Cornell Global Labor Institute Trans Canad’s claims of 20,000 construction jobs and 119,000 manufacturing jobs is, to be civil, inflated.

Cornell GLI’s new report, Pipe Dreams? Jobs Gained, Jobs Lost by the Construction of Keystone XL (pdf)

Cornell University ILR School study highlights.

The report concludes that the job estimates put forward by TransCanada are unsubstantiated and the project will not only create fewer jobs than industry states, but that the project could actually kill more jobs than it creates. Main findings include:

    • The project budget that has a direct impact on U.S. employment is between $3 and $4 billion or about half of what industry claims.
    • 50% or more of the steel pipe, the main material input used for Keystone XL, will be manufactured outside of the U.S.
    • Jobs will be temporary and between 85-90% of the people hired to do the work will be non-local or from out of state.
    • The Perryman study, which estimates around 119,000 (direct, indirect and induced) jobs is a poorly documented study commissioned by TransCanada.
    • Job losses would be caused by additional fuel costs in the Midwest, pipeline spills, pollution and the rising costs of climate change.  Even one year of fuel price increases as a result of Keystone XL could cancel out some or all of the jobs created by the project.

CBS Money Watch January 2012 “Keystone pipeline: How many jobs really at stake?”

    Excerpt
Yet exactly how much work Keystone, a proposed 1,700-mile pipeline that would transport oil from Alberta, Canada, to the Texas Gulf Coast, would generate remains in dispute. Transcanada (TRP), the energy giant bidding to build the pipeline, projects the undertaking would create 20,000 jobs in the U.S., including 13,000 positions in construction and 7,000 in manufacturing.

That figure, based on a report by a consulting firm hired by Transcanada to assess the project’s economic impact, has been widely cited by Keystone backers on Capitol Hill. Other estimates advanced by supporters of the pipeline have been even more optimistic, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce claiming it could create 250,000 permanent U.S. jobs.

But subsequent analysis suggests that Keystone’s job-creating potential is more modest. The U.S. State Department calculated last year that the underground pipeline would add 5,000 to 6,000 U.S. jobs. One independent review of Keystone puts that number even lower, with the Cornell University Global Labor Institute finding that the pipeline would add only 500 to 1,400 temporary construction jobs. The authors of the September report also said that much of the new employment stemming from Keystone would be outside the U.S.

Transcanada itself cast doubt on its employment forecast when a vice president for the company told CNN last fall that the 20,000 jobs Keystone would create were temporary and that the project would likely yield only “hundreds” of permanent positions.

PolicyMic “Keystone XL Pipeline May Create Jobs, But At Too Steep a Cost to Be Worth It

We carefully chose sources for reference that are generally viewed as credible sources of information. As a former Member of Congress,  Harold Ford has to have access to and knowledge of the same and more data related to the real of phony jobs prospects from the Northern Leg of the XL Pipeline.

You may have noticed we have focused solely on Ford’s claims of Jobs, jobs, jobs from the project. Environmental impact issues have not been addressed as we have addressed those issue many times. Also the theme of this piece was Chris Mathews apropos comments about the Democratic Party and “the differentiator” Ford’s claims of jobs.

I am reticent to place links to past TPI KXL screeds as you have probably read them. If you have not read any TPI screeds on Keystone XL Pipeline, help yourself via the Search box in the right sidebar.

There are times when we receive messages from guiding forces. The Upworthy piece to follow appears as one such comprehensive message.

    Upworthy Dot Com

The message is stark, grave and eye-opening!

As stated above there is another poignant message among the many related to man-made environmental threats. Related yet different from an information perspective. If you did not know the Mayflower, Arkansas spill of two weeks ago was caused by another underground pipeline delivering Tar Sand Oil to a predestined terminal, a reliable source of information fills the gap.  Addictinginfo not only reminds us of that tragedy, the information source also delves into another alarming fact: media avoidance of recent oil spills by CNN and Fox News.

CNN And Faux News, A Conspiracy Of Silence On The Mayflower Tar Sands Spill (VIDEO)

Today I was struck by the fact that CNN is now no better than FOX when it comes to reporting anything even mildly controversial. To test this theory, I visited each site and entered an identical term.
The term I chose to search was “Mayflower Tar Sands.”
On the bright Red side of the internet, I found the following gems.
A very fact filled and informative article on Faux News was first on the list. “It’s obvious that the rupture was not the fault of the state and the state has been damaged in addition to the private property owners” Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said to Exxon Mobil in a terribly soft-handed and kid-gloved approach to the situation.
This one from Fox Business News, all fluff and no substance whatsoever, on how Arkansas’ attorney general is planning an investigation. Everything’s cool here, some of ya’ll can go home now! Just ignore that smell…
Over to CNN, proudly neither Red nor Blue and sadly the news here is just as anemic. In a statement that confounds the logical mind, Representative Lee Terry of Nebraska stated the Keystone XL pipeline “is primed to give our economy a shot in the arm and make energy more affordable — and it won’t cost the taxpayers a dime.” If I tried to follow the logic of this I’d end up taking a long walk off a short pier. To see why Rep. Terry’s statement makes my head hurt, consult Pipeline Timmy on Mother Jones.
35 jobs is just the shot in the arm our economy needs, said no one ever.

We realize CNN is fighting hard to stay above the water level ratings.  How better to ‘steal’ viewers from the number one cable network FOXPEN (Fox News Propaganda and Entertainment Network) than to mimic its appeal to large number of viewers? CNN as the former leader in cable news has dissolved into a long lost memory of coverage past. Coverage from a by-gone era influenced by modern day quests for ratings that result in to major conservative news networks. If you think that language is a bit harsh, think about no middle ground news outlet between FOXPEN and MSNBC. Now, take your thought processes one step farther: the impact of not knowing real facts and data, tragedies and current events relative to “Big Oil”.

While we do not expect better from FOXPEN?      CNN may find its current third place slip below that of Current TV. Of course, we know that is not possible, but we also know that is no fourth place in cable news. If environmental catastrophe is not important enough to garner serious coverage on CNN, the network fails as a news source. When it fails as a new source and avoids coverage of oil spills, it effectively renders itself propaganda outlet.  A propaganda outlet that does not disseminate relevant news for no reason beyond political considerations and viewership.

“What we do not know, hurts us”!

Keystone XL Pipeline: Environmental Crap shoot, jobs lies & GOP political pandering

In GOP, McConnell, Obama Administration, Reuters, The Progressive Influence, Trans Canada on March 10, 2012 at 4:59 PM

Pipelines do not just ruin within a few feet of construction.

The GOP continues efforts to legislate for the benefit of large corporation concerns with a secondary mission of posturing for the 2012 Election.  The GOP’s latest amendment in the US Senate fell short of the requited 60 votes.  The amendment would have fast tracked the project by using a Constitutional commerce clause for pipeline wrestling approval from the president and hand approval  to the US Congress. Now, there is a frightening prospect for certain (regardless of party majority in either Chamber).

    Reuters

By proposing the amendment, Republicans sought to wrest the approval process from Obama’s control. They have also used the proposal to highlight his decision ahead of November presidential and congressional elections, linking his delaying of the pipeline project to rising gasoline prices.
“At a moment when millions are out of work, gas prices are sky-rocketing and the Middle East is in turmoil, we’ve got a president who’s up making phone calls trying to block a pipeline here at home. It’s unbelievable,” said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Reuters reports that President Obama supports a southern leg of the pipeline. The unsettled northern route remains an area of contention;  plans show proposed construction across an environmentally sensitive region in Nebraska.  Another perspective on the pipeline from one who has a history of conservationism illustrates a point: Ted Turner.

As the Party on the Right works to advance a pipeline across the heartland of our nation, the party spends far less effort in meaningful jobs bills.  How often have we heard, Boehner, McConnell, Hoeven (R) South Dakota, and others (Like Fox News on-air public relations mouthpieces) extol the construction of the Pipeline?  Their arguments and political strategically placed comments more often than not center on ‘jobs’, and (of late) gas prices.

    energy-pedia news

TransCanada said on Monday it will build the southern leg of its $7 billion Keystone XL oil pipeline first, skirting a full-blown U.S. review and giving President Barack Obama ammunition to hit back at Republicans who have blasted his energy policy. Building the portion of the contentious pipeline that would run to Texas refineries from the Cushing, Oklahoma, storage hub before the northern section would help remove a pinch-point that has led to deep price discounts for U.S. and Canadian crude and forced refiners to rely more heavily on imports.

TransCanada said it wants the $2.3 billion southern leg in service by mid- to late 2013. It said construction would create 4,000 U.S. jobs, compared with its previous estimate of 20,000 for the overall project, a figure environmental groups disputed. The company also wrote to the U.S. State Department on Monday detailing plans to refile an application shortly for the remainder of line running to Steele City, Nebraska, from the Canada-U.S. border, reminding officials that much of the environmental assessment work is already done.

The development in the long-running battle over the pipeline comes as Obama seeks to fend off Republican jibes about quashing the project, with surging U.S. gasoline prices and a push for job creation among top election issues. Obama rejected the initial Keystone XL application in January after more than three years of study, saying it needed more environmental review than could be completed before a tight deadline that had been set by Congress.

As I and many others have reported pipeline construction will not provide jobs at the 20,000 level.  A Cornell University Labor Council study  contradicts early job estimates from Trans-Ocean and the over-(anxious to build) GOP members of Congress.  According to the study a majority of pipeline jobs will be temporary construction jobs.

As British Petroleum settled its Gulf of Mexico oil spill case just this week, more electronic media and social networking are picking-up on environmental considerations of oil drilling, transport, and storage. The Rachel Maddow Show (TRMS) recently devoted a few minutes to issues related to oil prospecting  and transport impact on the environment.  The segment develops slowly, but effectively. You may want to skip the first few minutes, if you are like me; suffers from “lack of patience”.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32545640

The future completion of the pipeline is replete with little benefit to the citizens of the nation.

Many have written and reported on the jobs (20,000) lie. More have written or commented about the environmental impact of oil transport. And, factually you know that transport of oil cannot be accomplished without human errors.  Human error kills people, destroys habitat and environments, and human error often results in irreversible catastrophes. In either case, the Keystone Pipeline is a mistake of epic proportions.  I find it almost criminal the GOP is so behind the construction, but the GOP is a party that cares nothing about the environment.

Jonathan Alter of Bloomberg.com closes out this piece: Keystone Pipeline brings Pain at the Pump.

The GOP has proven it does not have the political acumen, nor the luck, to win-out against the Obama Administration.  The party is rapidly running out of issues which lend to political posturing. the issues that are available for GOP posturing, are  consistently fumbled by elected officials on the Right. Is this the time to turn our nation back to a party that seems to offer no alternatives form our 2000-2008 past.   The Keystone Pipeline is but the latest case of GOP ‘failed governance’.

Keystone revisited…. presidential review is Required.. GOP "Swift Boat"?

Information is powerful even if not exciting!!!!  You have to follow this issue.

Oh, I do not see any Maple Leaf fissures reaching into the US of A!

Rarely do I delve into a single topic such as I have with Keystone XL Pipeline. Well, maybe Ron Paul.

As I was perusing a bit of email yesterday,  I noticed a close friend had sent me a link to an article from the website CrooksandLiars.com. The article by Susie Madrak, peaked my interest to a level that about pushed my over the edge.   I quickly clicked on a few links in the article. One link took me to these words within the first couple of paragraphs.

    Priceofoil.org

Keystone XL will not lessen U.S. dependence on foreign oil, but rather transport Canadian oil to American refineries for export to overseas markets.

OK, now that means, I now have a real problem.

After previous writings (archived key articles:  Article 1,  Article 2)   and a focus on possible Koch Brother benefit as well as inordinate GOP interests in the project, I received another shock. Surely, I am not going to find ‘corporate malfeasance’ and big oil cronyism coupled with political expedience!  I was wrong, I found just that..

Life is full of hard knocks.

No matter how well informed on a topic, no matter the amount of research accomplished, other motives often surface if given time.  The CrooksandLiars writer adroitly linked information which points added 1 % (er) motives for the Keystone XL Pipeline: revenue from exports overseas well beyond the United States.  The links to articles in the previous paragraph included information the Kochs stand to benefit enormously from the pipeline. Could it be the ‘uber’ wealthy Kochs (and others) provide impetus for fighting for a pipeline that will not directly benefits us as tax payers?

    Swithcboard.nrdc.org

Keystone XL will not bring any more oil into the United State for decades to come.  Canada doesn’t have nearly enough oil to fill existing pipelines going to the United States. However, existing Canadian oil pipelines all go to the Midwest, where the only buyer for their crude is the United States. Keystone XL would divert Canadian oil from refineries in the Midwest to the Gulf Coast where it can be refined and exported. Many of these refineries are in Foriegn (Foreign) Trade Zones where oil may be exported to international buyers without paying U.S. taxes. And that is exactly what Valero, one of the largest potential buyers of Keystone XL’s oil, has told its investors it will do. The idea that Keystone XL will improve U.S. oil supply is a documented scam being played on the American people by Big Oil and its friends in Washington DC.

The last full paragraph of the article provides telling information about TransCanada and assurances the pipeline will be used to transport fossil fuel derivatives to the United States only.

    Valero?????  Valero Energy.

Valero is numbers 24 of the nation’s top 25 revenue earners.  How about a look at how Valero stacks up against the top 10 Fortune 500 Corporations?

The Priceofoil.org link above navigated to a page with a set of facts related to Valero and how the Keystone Pipeline either benefits the nation or does not benefit the nation.

Valero Energy Assessment final report December 23, 2010  (PDF Download).
The reader should review informational on pages 43-47 for perceptive on how Valero’s strategies focus more on foreign markets than any markets in the United States.

I must ask, “How does the Keystone XL Pipeline really benefit the United States“?  Let’s keep in mind  the only comment we receive for the House conservatives is, “20,000 Jobs”. And, that talking point has been refuted by  The Cornell University Labor Institute.

    We have……

    I.           Potential environmental damage (even if remote, it will happen)
II.          Potential Benefit for Koch Industries
III.         No real energy benefit to the US of A
IV.        The real prospect of our tax dollars for the pipeline
    V.          Disproportion revenue generator for Trans Canada vs the U.S.
VI.         Major GOP obstructionism fixed to bills that benefit middle to lower
                  income people.

Unless, I receive contrary information, I am just going to write-off the insertion to the Keystone pipeline into the Payroll Taxes and unemployment payments negotiations as typically GOP pandering and self-interest.  They work for very specific constituents and you and I are not part of the consideration.

I ask you, “Where is the logic”?
